Janine Seit Suelto-Sagario’s wedding to her husband became viral for a tragic reason. Among other things, she, a pregnant bride. was captured on video practically dashing to the altar in her beautiful gown because, TAKE NOTE, the priest started the Mass without the Bride at the altar. She almost slipped.
It was incorrect. It was insensitive. And it was also disrespectful.
This was in Amlan, Negros Oriental. A communication fiasco resulted to the wedding entourage arrive an hour late. They were treated harshly apparently.
1. Catechists during pre-cana always emphasize the uniqueness of the Sacrament of the Marriage. Unlike other sacraments which is conferred by the priest, here the bride and groom confer it upon themselves. Starting the Mass without the bride present at the altar is inappropriate. It was simply incorrect.
2. It was insensitive. It was a show of power. No matter how angry a priest is, nothing justifies hurting the couple and their families during a wedding. Ito na nga tayo trying to convince couples to get married sa simbahan then we hear news like this. This is not often. But priests letting their anger affect their ministry is common enough.
3. It was disrespectful. In Bisaya, puera gaba. But bastos talaga. Maski na, maski na, maski na may mali ang couple. That is still unacceptable behavior from an ordained minister.
a. Kung nalate ng one hour puwede naman tawagan sa cellphone. Meron naman yan pag mag pa register.
b. Kung may prior appointment ang pari, iinform diay properly na wala nang bridal
march, derecho na sa altar.
While this is sad, and I hope the parish priest will make a public apology, I still hope that Janine and her handsome husband will move on and start their family life with joy and happiness. Never allow someone kahit pa pari to destroy such a beautiful moment.
